Collection title devised. Collection span dates correspond to Gottscho's early photographs (1896) until near the end of his life (1970); the bulk dates correspond to the firm's most active years (1935-1955). Photographic prints are from original negatives. Original jackets for film items with job titles, item numbers, item titles, dates, and information about exposures and lens sizes are in PR 12 CN 165. Multi-volume negative registers (1916-1971) provide job titles, item numbers, item titles, and dates for negatives at the Library of Congress and in other repositories. A one-volume index lists clients before Sept. 1930. These volumes are in P&P Supplementary Archives.

Abstract: Architectural photographs, often made on commission for architects, designers, and commercial businesses, record important design achievements. Interiors and exteriors of homes, stores, offices, factories, historic buildings, and other structures, primarily in the northeastern United States and Florida. Also, documentation of the 1939-1940 World's Fair in New York. Work by Gottscho before the establishment of the firm Gottscho-Schleisner, Inc. includes views of New York City and the surrounding area and images of family and friends.
